Mission Statement - Pursue matters of interest to the Henderson business community at a Federal Level.
In the past the Henderson Chamber of Commerce has taken a team of members to Washington DC to meet with our Washington DC representatives to present our greatest concerns for our businesses in our community. This year we are trying a different approach with a more personal relationship with our State representatives here in Nevada. The committee members are meeting with the federal representatives and/or their local staffs to address the concerns of our members.
The committee surveyed our membership this past summer requesting a list of their concerns on a federal level that may or are impacting their businesses. Those concerns were;
Banking/Credit - in our current economy many of our members don\'t understand what happened and what the future looks like. Our Banking/Credit chair Kelly Brockman of Nevada State Bank with her committee and the support of Nevada State Bank has developed several webinars for our members explaining what has happened to our financial market, cause and future while providing some financial direction for them. The committee has also put together a financial panel of experts for our members to discuss the issues and try to provide some direction in the future for them.
Healthcare - the Senate and House Representatives have put together a healthcare bill to meet the needs of our nation. Unfortunately the current bills impose some heavy burdens on our businesses. Efforts are ongoing to improve the healthcare bill and help our members.

Mission Statement - Encourage policymakers, business leaders, and our members to support structure and initiatives that create opportunities, innovation, rewards hard work, and promote growth.
Some of the things most important to the committee at this time are:
Creation of Jobs - well over 15% unemployment in our Valley plus for those people still working some have had their pay reduced.
New taxes imposed on employers
Unfunded mandates without any additional monies
Creation of new businesses
Education and Training for our members
Support Services to our membership
Free Business Counseling for our members
The committee developed the 2010 Guiding Policy Priorities for the Chamber.

Nevada Chambers Roundtable - Chaired by Lorraine Hunt Bono
Mission Statement - is to collaborate with Nevada Chambers to identify issues of common interest that promote a pro-business environment which will result in increased strength and competitiveness. The NCR will review, pursue, and act upon key statewide matters that affect the growth and momentum of the business environment for business and industry.
Increase our visibility, strength, and influence by communicating with Nevada legislators to gain greater recognition and support for the Nevada Chambers Roundtable.
Positively influence government at the state level by being the people's voice regarding selected critical state issues and initiatives affecting business and industry.
Research and evaluate selected state issues, provide high-level impact reviews, report to the Nevada Chambers Roundtable, and actively encourage each Chamber's support and involvement. Individual Chamber issues shall be respected.
This committee usually meets once a month.
Committee members are from 24 Nevada Chambers and 6 Nevada Associations.
Legislative Committee 2009 - Chaired by Charles Perry - Nevada Health Care Assoc.
The 2009 committee was composed of 9 subcommittees with the leaders attending the Wednesday morning calls with our legislators and lobbyists in Carson City. The attendance at the conference calls was exceptionally high considering they were at 7:00 a.m. Over the four months the committees reviewed many bill drafts and proposed bills. They added 84 bills to the Committees Watch List, 45 Assembly, 39 Senate, and 1 joint resolution bill. The Legislative Committee was successful in obtaining several bill amendments that benefited our business members. The committee issued 6 bill opposition and 5 supporting letters to the 2009 Legislature.
The opposition letters consisted of proposals to redirect local government taxes to State funds, reducing physician and hospital margins, changes to governing professional negligence, imposing taxes on businesses, and higher business fees.
The supporting letters emphasized the committee support for amended bills that provided non paid leave to parents at school activities, the establishment of demonstration managed traffic lanes, revisions to construction defect regulations, and the elimination of certain State program funds to reduce government spending.
In February Senator Horsford presented his World Class Education bill to the committee. In March the Committee members attended a Legislative Reception in Carson City with the Legislative Representatives and Assemblywoman Kirkpatrick discussed redevelopment funding changes. Of course April and May found the committee in many tax debates. The major issues in 2009 were of course increased taxes, improving education with lower costs, providing exceptional health care at lower rates, reducing the costs of construction, redevelopment, and the revision of renewable energy provisions.
Charles Perry, chairman of the 2009 HCC Legislative committee issued a special thank you to all of the Committee Leaders and to our Legislative representatives for the many hours expended in making Nevada a better place to do business. A big thank you goes to Senator Joyce Woodhouse for making her Carson City office available each Wednesday morning for the conference calls. The support and cooperation of everyone was greatly appreciated. A thank you reception was held September 26th for everyone by the Henderson Chamber and Nevada State College.
